For Homeowners
Thank You for Visiting
If you’ve received a letter, email, or business card from me, thank you for taking the time to visit my website.
Allowing someone onto your property is a decision that requires trust, and I don’t take that lightly. My goal is to make that decision as easy as possible by explaining who I am, how I work, and why I have such a passion for uncovering local history.
Every Property Has a Story
Long before today’s neighborhoods existed, families built homes, worked farms, raised children, and lived their daily lives on the very land we now call home. Along the way, countless small pieces of history were lost beneath the soil—coins dropped from a pocket, buttons from a favorite coat, horse tack, tools, children’s toys, and other everyday objects that quietly became part of the landscape.
Those forgotten items tell the story of the people who came before us.
That is what inspires my treasure hunting.
While discovering an old coin or relic is always exciting, what truly interests me is learning the history behind each find and preserving those stories for future generations.
Who I Am
My name is Joel, and I live in Uxbridge, Massachusetts.
I’m a lifelong history enthusiast and avid metal detectorist with a particular interest in New England’s colonial past. Through this website, I document my adventures, research local history, share photographs of discoveries, and encourage others to appreciate the incredible history that exists right beneath our feet.
Every outing is another opportunity to learn something new about the communities we call home.
Respect for Your Property
Protecting your property is my highest priority.
Modern metal detecting is very different from what many people imagine.
I recover most targets by cutting a small, neat plug only a few inches across. After removing the target, the soil is replaced carefully and the grass is returned exactly as it was. When done properly, the plug quickly settles back into place and often becomes nearly impossible to notice.
Whenever I detect on private property, I promise to:
-
Treat your property with the same care and respect I would expect for my own.
-
Leave the property looking as though I was never there.
-
Remove any modern trash I recover, including nails, wire, pull tabs, bottle caps, and other metal debris.
-
Never disturb landscaping, gardens, buildings, or restricted areas without your permission.
-
Follow any instructions or limitations you provide.
-
End the search immediately if you ask me to.
My goal is simple:
To leave your property cleaner than I found it.
If We Discover Something Special
One of the most rewarding parts of treasure hunting is uncovering objects that have been hidden for decades or even centuries.
If I recover an artifact of historical interest, I will gladly:
-
Photograph the item.
-
Research its history whenever possible.
-
Share everything I learn with you.
-
Provide digital copies of the photographs if you’d like them.
Every property has its own story, and I believe homeowners deserve to be part of discovering it.
Ownership of recovered items will always be discussed before any detecting begins so that expectations are clear and comfortable for everyone involved.
What Might Be Found?
Every property is unique, but depending on its age and history, possible discoveries include:
-
Colonial-era buttons
-
Musket balls
-
Shoe buckles
-
Old coins
-
Farm tools
-
Horse tack
-
Crotal bells
-
Household artifacts
-
Lost jewelry
-
Military relics
-
Personal keepsakes
-
Modern valuables accidentally lost in the yard
Sometimes the most ordinary object tells the most fascinating story.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my lawn be damaged?
No. Proper recovery techniques leave very little evidence that a target was ever recovered. Great care is taken to preserve the lawn throughout the process.
How long will you detect?
Most permissions last anywhere from one to several hours, depending on the size of the property and your preferences.
Do I need to be home?
That’s entirely up to you. Some homeowners enjoy walking along and hearing about the discoveries, while others prefer to go about their day. I’m happy with either.
What if nothing is found?
That’s part of the adventure. Even if no historic artifacts are recovered, your property will be left just as it was found and often cleaner after removing buried metal trash.
Why I Share My Adventures
This website exists because I believe history should be shared.
Each artifact connects us to someone’s life, a farmer, a child, a soldier, a traveler, or a family that helped shape our community. By documenting these discoveries and researching their stories, we help preserve a small piece of local history that might otherwise remain forgotten forever.
Treasure hunting is more than a hobby for me.
It’s a way of connecting the present with the past.
Thank You
Whether your property yields a colonial relic, a lost wedding ring, or simply a handful of old square nails, I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to explore a small piece of its history.
Thank you for considering my request and for taking the time to learn more about what I do.
Perhaps together we’ll uncover a story that has been waiting beneath your feet for generations.
I hope to hear from you soon.
